Wine: Assyrtiko, Nykteri, Vinsanto.
There is a great variety of different kind of wines on the island, but the most popular and famous kind is called 'Vinsanto'. It's a very sweet type of wine (personally, I love it!!!) made from grapes that lie in the sun to dry for about 2 weeks. Other popular types are 'Assyrtiko' and 'Nykteri'. Santorini has many different wineries, with each one making its own "flavour" or the above types of wine. My suggestion would be to visit a few wineries and get a taste of the wines they have. It's definately worth it if you like wine!
Pumice: Volcanic rock
Volcanic rock is everywhere on Santorini and is the reason for the existence of Pumice. For those who do not know what pumice is... Pumice is a light, porous type rock. It is formed during explosive volcanic eruptions when liquid lava is ejected into the air as a froth containing masses of gas bubbles. As the lava solidifies, the bubbles are frozen into the rock. It is a very very light rock and used in many aspects of our modern life. Where can YOU use it? ....simply for a nice hot bath! (or even for medicinal reasons: massaging knee joints for example).
Food: Tomatokeftedes, Fava
Other than wines and volcanic rock, Santorini is know for its good Fava (mashed cheekpeas) and Tomatokeftedes (fried tomato balls). If you are the kind of person who like to get a feel for the local flavours, then you should definately try these dishes.
