Oia Santorini Guide
Independent guide to Oia, Santorini: sunset, Ammoudi, caldera walks, where to stay, when to visit and how to avoid the busiest periods.
Read guide →Below Oia
Ammoudi sits below Oia at sea level and feels physically close but logistically distinct because of the steep vertical difference.
The traditional route involves many steps. Heat and the climb back make timing important; road access by vehicle may be preferable for some visitors.
Come for the harbour setting and food rather than expecting a broad sandy beach. If you plan to swim nearby, understand the route and sea conditions first.
Getting there
Ammoudi is below Oia and the stair route is demanding, particularly in heat and on the return climb. A taxi can approach via the road, but access and turnaround space are limited at busy times.
