Understand Santorini’s geography before booking: caldera towns in the west, beach resorts in the east/southeast, inland villages and transport hubs.
West: the caldera
Oia, Imerovigli, Firostefani and Fira line the caldera side. This is where you find the iconic views, many stairs and premium accommodation.
East and southeast: beaches
Kamari, Perissa and Perivolos are practical for swimming and flatter resort-style stays.
South and inland
Akrotiri, Emporio, Pyrgos, Megalochori, Messaria and surrounding villages contain archaeology, vineyards and traditional settlements.
Transport anchors
Fira is the main bus hub; Santorini Airport is east of the centre; Athinios is the ferry port on the caldera side. Always check the exact map pin for accommodation before booking.
