Practical Santorini guide
Santorini on a Budget
Santorini is expensive by Greek-island standards, but location, transport and meal choices can reduce costs substantially.
Stay away from the caldera edge
Karterados, Messaria, Perissa, Kamari and other non-caldera areas can offer better value than Oia or Imerovigli.
Use buses strategically
Base yourself near a useful bus route and check the current timetable. Repeated taxis can quickly erase accommodation savings.
Eat beyond sunset viewpoints
Traditional food does not require a caldera table. Inland villages and beach areas can provide more choice at different price levels.
Prioritise free experiences
Village walks, viewpoints, beaches and much of the Fira–Oia trail cost nothing. Spend selectively on experiences that genuinely matter to you.
