Practical Santorini guide
Driving & Parking in Santorini
A practical guide to renting a car, driving narrow Santorini roads, parking near villages and deciding whether you need a vehicle.
Do you need a car?
Not necessarily. Fira-based visitors can reach many major places by bus, but a car gives more flexibility for inland villages and dispersed beaches.
Road conditions
Expect narrow roads, sharp bends, scooters, buses and pedestrians. Drive defensively and do not stop for photographs where you obstruct traffic.
Parking
Historic centres and caldera settlements have limited vehicle access. Use designated parking outside the core and walk.
ATVs and scooters
Only rent a vehicle you are legally licensed and genuinely competent to operate. Wear the required safety equipment and check insurance exclusions carefully.
