Athinios Ferry Port Santorini
Athinios is Santorini’s main ferry port, compressed between the sea and steep caldera slopes. Arrival logistics matter.
Why the port can feel chaotic

Athinios is the passenger ferry port. Do not confuse it with Fira’s Old Port, which mainly serves cruise and excursion traffic. Athinios is below the caldera cliffs and uses a steep access road that can become heavily congested when ferries arrive together.

Leaving Athinios after arrival
Public buses usually connect the port with Fira around ferry movements; from Fira you can continue to Oia, Kamari, Perissa and other destinations. A taxi queue may form after large arrivals, so a pre-booked transfer is sensible when you have children, heavy luggage, a late arrival or a hotel with a complicated pedestrian approach.
Departing by ferry
Recheck your sailing on the day, because weather and operational changes can alter timings. Aim to be at Athinios well before departure; travellers with a vehicle need more time than foot passengers. Keep your ticket and identification accessible rather than buried in checked luggage.
