Arrival guide

Santorini Airport JTR

Santorini Airport (JTR) is on the east side of the island, close to Kamari and a short road journey from Fira in normal conditions.

Reviewed 2026-09-06 · Santorini (Thera), Cyclades, Greece

How to leave the airport

Options include public bus, taxi, private transfer and rental vehicle. Availability varies with flight banks, so pre-booking can reduce uncertainty during busy periods.

Leave margin on departure

The airport is compact and can feel crowded in peak season. Follow your airline’s current check-in guidance rather than relying on a generic island rule.

Arrival & departure essentials

Using Santorini Airport (JTR) in practice

Santorini Airport is about 5.5 km from Fira. In normal traffic the road journey is roughly 15 minutes, but summer queues can make transfers longer. The public bus stop is outside the terminal and services run between the airport and Fira; most other bus journeys require a change in Fira.

Arriving late or with a lot of luggage

Do not assume a bus will line up with every late flight. If your hotel is in Oia, Imerovigli or a pedestrian caldera area, ask exactly where a vehicle can drop you: many properties cannot be reached door-to-door by car. For a fixed arrival, a pre-arranged transfer is the lowest-friction option.

Before flying out

Check your airline’s own check-in time and the airport’s live departures page. In peak periods the terminal can become congested. Allow extra road time if travelling from Oia or from the south of the island.
