Walking Santorini

Fira to Oia Walk

The Fira-to-Oia trail is the best single route for understanding how Santorini’s caldera villages connect across the landscape.

Reviewed 2026-09-06 · Santorini (Thera), Cyclades, Greece

Route character

The trail passes Fira, Firostefani and Imerovigli before continuing over more exposed terrain toward Oia. Surfaces vary between paved village lanes, steps and rougher path sections.

Start early in warm weather

There is limited shade. In summer, early morning is substantially more comfortable than midday. Carry more water than you expect to need and use proper footwear.

Plan the return first

This is a linear walk. Decide in advance whether you will return by bus, taxi or pre-arranged transfer, particularly after sunset or in shoulder season.

Shorter version

Fira to Imerovigli delivers a concentrated caldera walk without committing to the full distance.

Before you set off

Return transport, water and weather

This is a point-to-point walk for most visitors, so decide how you will return before starting. Check the Oia–Fira bus timetable, carry enough water, wear proper footwear and avoid the hottest part of the day in summer. The route is exposed and has sections of loose or uneven ground.
