Imerovigli is one of the strongest bases for travellers who want caldera drama without Fira’s bustle or Oia’s sunset crowds.
The village sits high on the caldera rim between Fira and Oia, with dramatic views and many cliff-facing properties. Evening activity is subdued compared with Fira, which is either the attraction or the drawback.
Skaros Rock is the village’s defining landmark. Routes involve steps, exposed terrain and heat in summer, so footwear and timing matter. Fira is reachable on foot via the caldera path for active travellers.
Restaurant choice is narrower than in Fira and many properties involve steps. Check exact access carefully if you have heavy luggage, a pushchair or limited mobility.
Getting there
Imerovigli is close to Fira geographically, but hotel entrances may involve narrow lanes and significant stairs. Confirm where a taxi or transfer can actually stop, especially with luggage or reduced mobility.
Useful live information
Check current ferry departures, journey times and prices before committing to accommodation or onward transport.
Fira is the main bus hub. Seasonal timetables change, so use the operator’s current timetable rather than an old screenshot.
Taxi dispatch: (+30) 22860 22555. For a serious emergency anywhere in Greece call 112.
