Akrotiri Santorini
Guide to Ancient Akrotiri in Santorini: why it matters, what you see, how to plan the visit and what to combine nearby.

Ancient Thera occupies the high ridge of Mesa Vouno above Kamari and Perissa, giving it a very different setting from prehistoric Akrotiri.
Akrotiri is prehistoric and closely tied to the great Bronze Age eruption; Ancient Thera represents later historical periods. Visiting both helps separate two sites that are often confused by first-time visitors.
The site is elevated and exposed. Check current access arrangements, weather and official opening information before setting out.
Visit information
Ancient Thera sits high on Mesa Vouno above Kamari and Perissa. The approach is steep and exposed, so footwear, heat and transport planning matter more than the short map distance suggests.
