Red Beach is one of Santorini’s most photographed coastal landscapes, but it is a place where access and cliff conditions matter more than the postcard.
The beach sits beneath red volcanic cliffs near Akrotiri, creating the colour contrast that makes it famous.
Rockfall and path conditions can change. Follow local signage and restrictions on the day you visit; do not treat old photos or blog directions as proof that a route is open.
If your main aim is a comfortable beach day, Perissa, Perivolos or Kamari are usually more straightforward.
Getting there
Access conditions can change because of unstable cliffs. Respect barriers and local instructions. Do not treat social-media photographs as proof that a particular path is safe or officially open on the day you visit.
