Family travel

Santorini with Kids

Santorini can work very well for families, but the cliff-edge layout means accommodation choice matters more than on a flat beach island.

Choose a practical base

Kamari and Perissa offer flatter terrain and easy beach access. Fira is useful for buses. Many caldera hotels have steep steps, small terraces or age restrictions, so verify the exact property rather than assuming “family room” means easy access.

Manage heat and walking

Build outdoor sightseeing around mornings and late afternoons. The full caldera trail is not a casual pushchair walk.

Good family activities

Beach time, short village walks, boat trips suitable for your children’s ages, and the sheltered archaeological site at Akrotiri can all work well.

Family logistics

Transport and health with children

For airport and ferry arrivals with young children, a pre-arranged transfer can be materially easier than waiting in a taxi queue or changing buses in Fira. If you need a child seat, request and confirm it in advance rather than assuming one will be available.
